Clean Water is Not a Luxury – It’s a Lifeline for Yemen

As the severe water crisis in Yemen deepens, 29 international NGOs have sounded the alarm in a joint statement at the 7th Senior Officials Meeting (SOM VII). Learn more about Our Humanitarian Efforts Here. Their collective appeal: must take immediate, coordinated action is required to sustain essential services, especially clean and safe drinking water.

Addressing the Water Crisis in Yemen: Innovation Must Prevail

The ongoing destruction of health and water infrastructure has exacerbated the water crisis in Yemen, leaving millions without access to safe water. The joint statement highlights the consequences of terminated aid projects and escalating insecurity, conditions that call for practical, rapid-response solutions. For communities on the ground, this often translates to a creates heightened risk of devastating waterborne diseases like cholera and dysentery, particularly impacting children whose health and ability to attend school compromises severely. Local health clinics, if still operational, face an overwhelming strain on their already limited resources. Aquatabs provide an effective, scalable answer to prevent disease outbreaks in areas where traditional water systems are no longer functional.

Empowering Local Capacity

In a context where international aid constrains more and more, NGOs stress the importance of local response capacity. Over two million people, particularly women and girls, face mounting risks without access to essential services. Aquatabs enable frontline responders—often community-based organisations—to distribute water treatment efficiently and independently, enhancing immediate response capability. The simplicity of Aquatabs means training local individuals to treat water is quick and straightforward. Furthermore, their lightweight nature and long shelf life present significant logistical advantages for local teams operating in challenging terrains, fostering greater community resilience and ownership of their water safety solutions.

Responding Within Constraints

Sanctions and restrictive regulations continue to obstruct the delivery of vital supplies, including many water purification tools. Unlike bulky equipment or solutions requiring complex supply chains, Aquatabs are light, cost-effective, and easy to store and transport. This allows them to navigate these challenges more effectively, serving as a critical and accessible resource in complex operational settings.

Aquatabs: A Practical Tool for Yemen’s Water Crisis

As humanitarian space shrinks and critical interventions face risk, the call to donors and implementing agencies is clear: prioritise solutions that work within today’s constraints. Aquatabs meet these demands—offering reliability, portability, and ease of use in the face of unpredictable access and funding environments.

Essential, Scalable, Immediate

Clean water is not optional. It is a foundational need that supports health, protection, and dignity. Aquatabs are not just a contingency—they are an essential tool for immediate, scalable water safety, ready to deploy wherever infrastructure fails.
